But that’s what happens at the Ewden water treatment works. The resultant benefit is that about 120,000 people in Sheffield get their water supply from the Ewden Works.

The Education Centre
The Ewden Water Treatment Works has an Education Centre and it was developed with the help of teachers to cover the core elements of the National Curriculum Key Stage 2, including numeracy, literacy, geography and science.
The Vacancy
As an added initiative, Yorkshire Water wants to recruit an Education Guide to work at the centre to show children, who make up the bulk of the visitors, how the water is cleaned and how the company supplies its customers with a constant supply of fresh drinking water.
Anne Reed, the manager of the Education programme for Yorkshire Water said: “We’re keen to open the centre at Ewden and provide an educational resource for schools in Sheffield again when we’ve recruited the right person to join our team. If you fancy talking to a wide range of our customers about all things water and education we’d love to hear from you. The role is only being advertised on our website and social media channels and has a closing date of 20 January.”

The Ewden Works came into operation in 1994 costing £22 million and was built on the site of the original works that were there since 1935.
